That Guy Just Got Twenty to Life for Clicking a Link

China has apparently spent the past year arresting more than 5,000 of its citizens for their involvement in the dissemination of the biggest threat to Chinese “state security,” namely, internet pornography, according to an AFP report. In an attempt to weed out “unhealthy” materials on the information super-highway, namely sex and violence, the Chinese government offers internet users who rat out their fraternity, in the so-called Communist country, a reward of 10,000 yuan (or $1,465). But the government there’s not done yet. In a statement released by the Ministry of Public Safety, they revealed that they intend to

“[S]trengthen punishment for Internet operators that violate the laws and regulations” in the coming year and [to] “severely punish operations that have serious problems with harmful information.”

Is Speculation the New(s) Story?

The Internet is abuzz today with un-news-worthy flights of fancy talking about what Amazon might be doing with Kindle next year, whether Apple’s tablet will be called the iSlate, and taking stabs in the dark as to the specifications of Google’s impending Chrome OS Netbook. This plus the mire about a missing  iPhone in New York and how popular writing about smartphones was this past year, leaves this blogger bereft of mirth. Sure I can make some gags about the increase in full-body scanners as consequence of the underwear bomber, but in reality, such a fierce loss of privacy is no laughing matter.
