Missing Links: Art Edition

This week on Missing Links we’ve got street art, crime maps, and Disney Princesses if they got drunk in Las Vegas and ambled into tattoo parlors – all the links have SOMETHING to do with art but you’ll have to look at the article to get all the details.

  1. Designer Daily brings us 20 examples of awesome street art, some just pretty, some really rather meaningful, and some will just blow your mind, man.
  2. Although it’s a science, getting around the backdoors of computers is something of an art. With SOPA up in the air right now, it’d probably be a good idea to have your favorite site’s I.P. addresses in case your browser gets blocked. Pastie‘s got you covered.
  3. To some people, like Adam Worth for instance, crime is something of an art-form and at least gets somewhat classier. Want to know the crimes being committed (well, reported at least) right around your neighborhood? Click through to Trulia.com and find out for yourself – at least in major cities.
  4. Society6 lets artists sell their wares. Tim Shumate is one said artist, and he’s really skilled . Want to see what Ariel, Jasmine, and Snow White would look like if they were Suicide Girls? Also has some nerdity and rock-n-roller-isms, via Nintendo, comic books, and Jimmy Hendrix.
  5. Think Shumate’s skilled? He has nothing on this next guy. Leonardo da Vinci. That’s right. You can check out his drawings, like all of them, here.
  6. What’s the difference between George Orwell’s 1984 and Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World? Well, you could read the books to find out, or you can check out this comic strip. But seriously, you should read those books. And yes, these deserve to be on the list because literature can be art too.
  7. Because there is truly an art to swearing: a do-it-yourself Shakespeare insult generator! Now you can tell that slag to sod off like Willy would, you unmuzzled, motley-minded moldwarp!
  8. While not really art or even nearly art-worthy, Facebook fails are hysterical. There is one entry in there that epitomizes the art of douchebaggery though, and hence this links’ inclusion on the list. I’ll let you figure out which one that is.
  9. Sayaka Kajita Ganz makes statues of animals out of mostly discarded plastics: spatulas, hangers, combs. Nothing’s safe from this woman’s imaginings and dexterous abilities. Look in Art has all you’re looking for in regards plastic horses, penguins, and birds. Also, a metal whale.
  10. The art of stand-up is hard. What makes it harder are hecklers. Here’s some examples of excellent situational diffusion (read: “hecklers get shat on hard”) by some experts.
